AfterSchool Leadership Academy

Uniquely combining on-going leadership development, executive coaching and unparalleled networking opportunities with peers, grantmakers and community leaders, our AfterSchool Leadership Academy, kicking off its 12th year in 2010, continues as our signature program.

Ten times each year (January - October, 9:30am-1:30pm) with the support of distinguished business, education and non-profit leaders who volunteer as discussion leaders and panelists, our Academy brings together Executive Directors, Senior Managers and Board Members from our City Scholars AfterSchool Network® (CSAN), a growing partnership of emerging and established neighborhood after-school programs to grow stronger as leaders through our tuition-free Academy.

Together, they learn and share best practices, discover creative solutions to common challenges with leadership, management and program development, connect with grantmakers and community leaders who can share both resources and wise counsel to help them build their programs AND celebrate their successes.

Indeed, we challenge ourselves to present fresh insights and perspectives around an established core curriculum each year.

Doing so creates a dynamic, exciting and engaging environment that encourages and welcomes our CSAN Leaders to participate with our Academy on an on-going basis.

With time, they gain greater understanding, can more effectively identify how best to apply new learning to grow their programs and can begin evaluating the impact of their actions.   Moreover, we are also better able to understand and address their evolving needs and issues.  Best of all, with time they gain the trust and confidence among their peers that facilitates even greater learning and success.

Each Academy session offers a fun, interactive, high-energy and impactful intensive 4 hour learning opportunity supported by helpful discussion notes and resource guides.  Sessions conclude with our ever-popular "Conversations with Grantmakers & Community Leaders" luncheon panel and generally involve no more than 25 participants.   Each year, our Academy calendar includes:

Indeed, our Academy provides our CSAN Leaders with exactly the on-going professional training, coaching and support beyond the classroom and unparalled networking opportunities in a small group with peers, grantmakers and community leaders that they need, but could otherwise not afford.

In fact, similar training programs often cost as much as $1,500 to more than $5,000 per person, do not focus specifically on the unique challenges and needs of non-profit, neighborhood after-school programs, provide little, if any, coaching and support beyond the classroom, do not offer such unique opportunities to network with peers, grantmakers and community leaders and do not extend the opportunity to participate on an on-going basis.
